Two brothers, Gerald Waters Jr., age 11, and his brother Jordan, age 10, wanted to do something for the Flint Michigan Water Crisis. Their hearts were heavy as they heard of the water crisis and how it is affecting so many families. They wanted to do something on a large scale to help people who are unable to drink, bathe, cook and do all their basic everyday activities. With the support of their parents and their pastor, Brian D. King Sr. of Ezekiel Baptist in Philadelphia, they want others to share in the hope that can be given to the Flint water crisis.
The residents of Flint are facing a serious lead contamination problem in their public drinking water. The solution is going to be expensive and time consuming. In the meantime, concerned people like the Waters brothers are stepping up to help. Ezekiel Baptist Church in Philadelphia, PA is rallying behind these two compassionate young men to raise money to purchase four pallets of bottled water for the affected residents of Flint. One pallet containing 72 cases of 16.9 oz. bottles of water costs about $500. They’ve dubbed the project the Flint, MI Water Rescue. So, with the assistance of their church family, Gerald and Jordan are going to send much-needed help to their neighbors in Flint, MI.
Partnering with Gerald and Jordon is Southern Baptist Disaster Relief. When their donations are received by the Baptist State Convention of Michigan, water will be purchased and shipped to any of several Southern Baptist churches in the area serving as warehouses and points of distribution. Residents can pick up multiple cases of water per day. As they do so, they are greeted with a smile and a Christian witness.
Southern Baptist Disaster Relief is also engaged in a project with the city to install water filters in homes. Three-person teams consisting of a driver, a chaplain, and an installer are working every day to minister to families in this critical time.
Thank you Gerald and Jordon for inspiring us to reach out to our neighbors with the love of Jesus. Your sister Southern Baptist Churches in Pennsylvania and South Jersey are rejoicing in your boldness. May your good works bring many to their knees in praise of our Heavenly Father (Matt. 5:16)!
