As this is being written, PASJ Disaster Relief is sending nineteen volunteers to Bastrop, Louisiana to help residents there recover from massive flooding. Included in the PASJ contingent are Bill and Sue Hoops who will be running Incident Command out of First Baptist Church of Bastrop.

Joining the Hoops will be two recovery teams lead by Doug Lesher and Doug Pilot.  Lesher’s teams will be utilizing the Thompsontown Baptist Church recovery unit.  Pilot’s team will be using the BRN West unit.  This is the West unit’s second out-of-state deployment in six months.

The team members come from eight of our churches:  First Baptist of Clarion, First Southern Baptist of Williamsport, Grace Baptist of Tyrone, New Hope of Duncansville, Target One Ministries of Martinsburg, The Church That Meets In Ramey, Thompsontown Baptist, and Winfield Baptist.  Also on the team is a partner from Martinsburg Grace Brethren church.

The two recovery teams will dong their work Tuesday, April 12 through Saturday, April 16.  Most will have returned home by Monday evening, April 18.  The Hoops are committed to serving in Incident Command through April 25.

Please pray for safe travels, success in establishing collaborative relationships with local government and emergency management, the ability to quickly discover the needs in the communities of Morehouse Parish, and for many opportunities for sharing the gospel.
