From church planter Alonzo Johnson
CHURCH PLANT MISSIONARIES WITH THE NORTH AMERICAN MISSION BOARD.
Thanks for your continued prayers and support. I pray that you and your family had a good time celebrating the resurrection of our God and King. We are truly thankful for how faithful God has been to us. There have been times when we did not know if we would be able to continue on with the ministry that God has called us to. But because of your prayers and the faithfulness of our God we have been able to keep pressing on. Philippians 1:6 “being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” This verse has helped me to understand that God is faithful and he will complete the work that He has called Rhonda and I to. Our God has been faithful to open doors for ministry that have blown us away. Because of our relationship with Principal Spina, at William H. Ziegler Elementary school, we were able to host our first Dads Club on March 10. Close to 50 dads brought their kids to school for dinner and games.  We were also able to have a scavenger hunt for 60 kids at Ziegler. This is part of our strategy to serve and connect to the community.
Too often there are not enough resources to help fathers.
50 dads brought their kids to school for dinner and games.
As a follow up to the dads club, we hosted a men’s discussion at the coffee shop on March 22. Bryant, Buff, Ron, Vic, John and myself had a great time of sharing our stories and getting to know each other. John who came with Vic asked a question that drove our discussion. He asked, “what is faith?” Our God is truly faithful and we were able to have great gospel conversations during our time together. Please pray for John as he is still mourning the death of his wife.  We will have several other dad’s events this year and we hope to continue to build relationships and foster gospel discussions. We believe that the Lord has called us to do the work of an evangelist. Please pray for the many outreach programs that we will be having this spring/summer; meeting needs in the community and sharing the gospel. Our next Dads club will be on May 19, at William H. Ziegler School. We continue to assist McIlvain recreation center with its after school program on Tuesdays. It is always a joy to spend time with the kids at the recreation center. Pray for us as we continue to use it as a tool to engage with families in the community. Our God has been faithful in placing the right people in our lives at this time. North America Mission Board, NAMB our mission board has supported and prepared us for the hard work of church planting. It was good to see Mrs Simons, Pastor Gary, Belle and their new son little Aiden, from our sending church, Cornerstone Bible Fellowship as they came to visit us in Philly. CBF has been walking with us from day one of this journey. Rhonda and I realize that we cannot do ministry alone and so we are excited to announce that the Lord has brought the Graffiti network into our-lives. Graffiti is a community of churches that are committed to meeting the needs of those in the urban context. Pastor Taylor Field, started the first Graffiti center over 40 years ago in Manhattan, NY and they have planted 5 other ministry-based church plants in New York and Baltimore. We believe that this partnership will help us to be more effective in how we serve those in our context. Owen Field, who planted Graffiti 3 in Brownsville, Brooklyn and who has assisted with other Graffiti centers will be our liaison. He has been a tremendous help and I am looking forward to co-laboring with him to build the Kingdom. Pastor Buff McNickle, and the Grace Falls community are a beautiful river to us as well. They have supported us with presence and finances during this season of our ministry life. Believers Bible Fellowship is also a blessing with their prayers and unwavering support. Last but not least, thanks to all of you for your prayers and support during on this journey.
“Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”  – Philippians 3:13-14
