PHILADELPHIA – The sheer amount of ministry going on in Philadelphia is a testament to the fact that God is at work in this great city. Over the last month there have been a number of P2 Mission and World Changer groups coming to Philadelphia to serve church plants, established churches, ministries and nonprofits in unique ways. Groups have lodged at Phil-Mont Christian Academy (Glenside, PA) and engaged in worship and teaching focused on exploring a Christ centered worldview so that they can serve others and bring about the shalom of God within this diverse urban community.
P2 Missions encourages young people to see the reality of church planting within the urban landscape. We intentionally plunge students into a context and provide them with tools that will help them understand the conditions around them–not for the sake of shock, but so that they can begin the journey of understanding how the gospel applies to the people they are serving. World Changers is another opportunity to share Christ through construction ministry. Students are encouraged to share their faith as they demolish, paint, spackle or participate in whatever opportunity is presented to restore broken dwelling places.
We are grateful for churches like Riverside Community Church (Horsham, PA) for providing lodging for a team from North Carolina working in Mayfair this summer. Their support and fellowship over the years has been a real encouragement and support. Great Commission Church has been a prayer partner and support in this summer long endeavor.
Last but not least, Calvary Christian Church took some young people to New York to attend a P2 Mission project in Brooklyn, NY. Their leader, Cecelia, trained and prepared a group of young people to share their faith on the streets of NY and came back with a report of a great experience. Thank you Pastor Fontell for getting behind the vision of P2 Missions. We will hear more about this group’s experience in the future.
Join me in praying that the heart of this ministry will spur a generation of leaders to fulfill the great commission and the great commandment and follow Christ into communities all over the globe.
