ROCHESTER, PA – Organist/Pianist willing to learn to be organist needed at First Baptist Church of Rochester.
This is a compensated position. Our organist has retired. The pipe organ is a part of the sanctuary and our history. Our retired organist is willing to teach someone to play our pipe organ at no cost to the student.
In short, the job details are as follows: The organist would need to attend every worship service. The organist must be able to play for congregational singing. When a contemporary praise song is used; the accompanist uses the baby grand piano. The normal service begins with an organ prelude, a praise song accompanied on the piano, followed by two hymns with organ accompaniment. There is no choir. The service concludes with a hymn with organ accompaniment followed by an organ postlude. The pianist/organist is the sole instrumentalist during the worship service.
In addition to standard worship services, the organist would need to attend a couple of special services such as: Mauday Thursday, Christmas Eve, Baccalaureate where the organist is expected to be in attendance. For funerals and weddings, compensation is over and above that for normal worship services.
The start date would be ASAP. Interested candidates can contact: Vivian Oaks/Music Committee Chair
