FOMBELL, PA – In the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey so many organizations, are trying to give people opportunities to connect emotionally and tangibly with the hurricane relief efforts. If you are looking for an opportunity to get involved, consider partnering with our own state Disaster Relief. The response to Harvey will take many months and there will be plenty of opportunities for us to contribute to the relief efforts.
One immediate way to respond is to help prepare our equipment and volunteers for potential deployment.
We are blessed to have equipment staged around the state, ready to respond to disasters wherever they occur. The Southwestern Association recently built a new Shower/Laundry unit that has been used by several missions teams over the Summer. They are currently deploying this unit to assist with the Harvey response. Since this is a new unit, they are still outfitting it with supplies that will support its operation at the Harvey response and beyond.
If you are in the West, your church may be able to help stock the unit for future deployment by donating supplies or sending your people to DR training whenever it is offered.
Below you will find a list of items currently being accepted to bring this unit to 100% readiness for long-term deployment:
- High efficiency laundry detergent
- Dryer sheets
- Body wash
- Gas cards to nationwide gas stations.
- Kitchen-sized trash bags
- Crew-cab pickup truck
Pastor Mark Sentell says, “The response from the local communities and churches has been great so far. We have stocked the trailer and are storing any extras for future deployments. Whether we deploy now or in 6 months, we want to be ready to send relief whenever and wherever the need arrises.”
The Southwestern Association unit will be accepting donations until September 11th (subject to change). If you have donations please drop them off at Live Out Baptist Church, where the unit is housed.
